What Is Reverse Osmosis?

Reverse osmosis is an effective process of purifying water at a molecular level. The system feeds water through a membrane at very high pressure to remove contaminants, including:

  • Viruses
  • Bacteria
  • Chemicals
  • Salts
  • Proteins
  • Minerals
  • Sugars
  • Dyes
  • Heavy metals
  • Dissolved organics

Reverse osmosis differs from other filtration systems in that it has the ability to reduce or completely remove concentrated solutions of dissolved molecules and ions. Other filtration systems generally only separate solid particles from water.

Benefits of Reverse Osmosis Water Purification

  • Redefine the taste of water: If you want refreshing, great-tasting water without any harmful chemicals or minerals, this technology is the perfect option for you.
  • 100% healthy water: This process helps in removing contaminants that are present in water. When you get all the impurities out of the water, you reduce the risk of waterborne diseases, bacteria and viruses.
  • Saves energy: In comparison to other filtration systems, reverse osmosis does not require electrical power, saving you energy in the long run.
  • Compact: Since the system and storage tank are compact, you can save on space. It will conveniently fit just about anywhere.
  • Minimum maintenance is required: Taking care of and maintaining the filtration system is easy. With installation from Rain of Las Vegas, you also receive filter system replacement services. We call our reverse osmosis customers every twelve months to remind them of this included filter service. You can change your own filters, or we can service the system for you.
  • Budget-friendly: Our reverse osmosis systems are also budget-friendly. We guarantee affordable water filtration systems without compromising on quality.

When you choose Rain of Las Vegas, you enjoy all the benefits of installing the best drinking water filtration system in your home or workplace.

Two Types of Filtration Membrane Elements

We offer two types of reverse osmosis semipermeable membranes designed with sophisticated technology.

The first one is TFC or Thin Film Composite Membrane. This is the TFC75 model and produces the purest form of drinking water at a fast rate (75 gallons per day). This membrane has a 1:1 wastewater ratio. This means for every gallon of pure water it produces, it only rejects 1 gallon of tap water. This is the most efficient membrane produced today, removing up to 99% of contaminants. It is also encapsulated, meaning there is no chance for bacteria growth within the cartridge.
The second one is the standard type TFC membrane with a 36 gallon-per-day production used in most other manufacturers’ osmosis systems. This membrane typically has a rejection rate of 93% of total dissolved solids and has a 1:3 ratio of wastewater. For every gallon of pure water that is produced, it will reject 3 gallons of water. We prefer the Pentair membrane since it conserves water. Since a TFC Membrane is not chlorine resistant, the carbon prefilter is specially designed to minimize the concentration of chlorine in drinking water.

Reverse Osmosis Filters – Frequently Asked Questions

How does a reverse osmosis system work?
How does reverse osmosis work? Our reverse osmosis system contains the patented manifold plate that directs the flow of water through each of the filtration steps. The simplified manifold design enhances the system by minimizing the need for individual connections between filtration stages.

The reverse osmosis process uses pressure to filter water. Water passes through the membranes, allowing the passage of pure water molecules, but no dissolved solids, organics, pyrogens and bacteria. The result is clean, purified water that’s ready to drink directly from the tap.

Does reverse osmosis remove minerals?
Yes. The reverse osmosis filtration process removes dissolved minerals from water, including excess calcium and magnesium—both of which are found in high concentrations in Las Vegas water. You can also consider a water softening system to remove minerals from your tap water.

Does reverse osmosis remove chlorine?
Depending on which membrane your system uses, reverse osmosis is able to remove a significant portion of chlorine from tap water. However, some chlorine may make it through the filtration membrane. This is why a prefilter with activated carbon is added to some reverse osmosis filtration systems to ensure all chlorine is removed.

Does reverse osmosis remove lead?
All reverse osmosis systems will remove common chemical contaminants, including heavy metals like lead, copper, and chromium. You can feel confident that your water is lead-free when you use a reverse osmosis filter.

How much is a reverse osmosis system?
Reverse osmosis systems’ cost depends on which system you choose to install in your home or office. Some systems can purify water at a faster rate, have better wastewater ratios, and require less maintenance. Prices can vary based on these factors.
